Bug Evolution Beginner's Guide: How to Play
Last updated:

New to Bug Evolution? You spawn as a tiny Spiderling and your goal is to eat, level up and evolve into stronger bugs. This guide walks you through the tutorial, your first evolution at level 12, the first quests and the jump to Whispering Woods at Lv 15+.
Step 1: The tutorial
When you join for the first time, a 6-step tutorial card appears at the top of the screen. Step 5 is "Eat some food — Bite an acorn or cocoon until it breaks", and a trail of yellow arrows points to the nearest target. Follow each step; it teaches biting, running and the level bar.

Step 2: Learn the controls
| Action | PC | Mobile |
|---|---|---|
| Bite | Left mouse button | Big red BITE button |
| Run | Shift | RUN button |
| Auto attack | AUTO ATK toggle | AUTO ATK toggle |
| Fly / land (fly forms) | FLY / DOWN | FLY / DOWN buttons |

Step 3: Eat to grow
Every bite on food gives XP, shown as a floating number (e.g. "+23 XP"). Good early food: acorns, silk cocoons, ants and crickets. Each level makes you bigger ("Level up — you grow bigger!") and raises your HP; for example a Lv 17 Young Fly had 313 HP and a Lv 53 Wolf Spider had 966 HP.

Step 4: Your first evolution
The level bar names your next form: "SPIDERLING · Garden Spider at Lv 12". When you hit Lv 12, tap the Evolve button above the bar. See How to evolve for later forms.
Step 5: Start quests
Open the Quests button (top right). Keep a Quick quest running at all times; they pay 40–150 coins and fit naturally into eating. Coins are used in the Bug Tree.

Step 6: Move to Whispering Woods
Sunny Meadow is the starting area. At Lv 15+ head to Whispering Woods, which has stronger food, the Lay Egg ability slot and the Emperor Scorpion boss. Don't rush the boss alone. See Maps & areas.

Step 7: Use free boosts
- Play during Night Hunt (2x XP).
- Invite a friend for the +500 reward.
- Join a Team to fight bosses together.

Beginner mistakes to avoid
- Running out of stamina near bigger bugs. Running drains stamina; walk when safe.
- Ignoring quests. They are your main coin source.
- Fighting bosses solo at low level.
- Buying Robux shortcuts early. Early levels are fast for free; see Robux shop for what is worth it.
- Downloading scripts. See script safety.
